American Idol

As we have not had cable/satellite/etc in the past oh so many years, we have been blissfully unaware of the current television shows. I remember when Emily was in 6th grade she came home from school one day and asked me what "Survivor" was.

Against my wishes, Darren recently installed an antenna on the roof. We now receive limited stations such as KBYU, FOX, and ABC. I now have kids that do what I did as a kid on Saturday mornings.... skip breakfast so they can flop in front of the TV. Of course they are watching Hannah Montana where I watched the cartoon "Dungeons and Dragons".

I wandered through the living room one night last month and Darren was watching the American Idol tryouts. It was hilarious. I sat down and watched. I was hooked.

SIGH.

I have too much to do to watch TV at nights, especially a show that for the last two few weeks has been multiple hours on multiple nights. But on the other hand I'm really having fun watching it. It is all new to me. I find myself dialing several times after each show to vote, wondering if they even count more than one vote per number. I don't know the "rules" I guess. Darren and the kids have been watching, too so it has been fun to talk about it with them.

I love David Archuleto. He rocks. But I keep waiting for him to screw up. Each time he opens his mouth I get the same feeling in my chest when I'm watching BYU football and I really want Max Hall to connect with the receiver or to actually RUN the ball for Heaven's sake. And when he does, it is awesome. David has always connected, so it has been a great feeling after the tension. When it comes down to the end of the season, we'll see if David can connect on the 4th and 18 to win against Utah. But he'll be winning AMERICA.

My other favorites from last night: Michael, Luke, Danny, David (the other one), and Chikezie.
