The next day was Sunday. We arrived in Aruba around noon and found our rental car.
This was not your normal rental car. It was a demon rental car. It had windows that went up and down by themselves. Grandma kept thinking Grandpa was playing tricks on her.
Grandma and Grandpa had spent a week here a few years ago, so they played "tour guide" with us.
I was really surprised at how dry and arid Aruba is. I didn't feel like I was on a tropical island AT ALL. I felt like I was in the desert at Las Vegas. It was not what I was expecting.
We drove first to the California Light House.
We then drove out to the Chapel of our Lady of Alto Vista on the other side of the island. We took what we thought was a short trail out to the ocean that ended up going on and on the the point we just gave up and went back to the car.
We stopped to buy snacks and pick up water. Nathan found a bunch of Kit-Kat bar flavors he'd never seen before. We'd never paid for anything in Florin's before. Whenever I hear Florin I think of the book/movie "The Princess Bride".
We drove around the island a while more and then drove back to Arashi beach. We spent every last minute we had in the ocean snorkeling... returning to the ship at the very last possible moment slightly damp and covered with sand!
While snorkeling Elissa saw a huge green Moray eel. It was creepy and scary and awesome all at the same time. The batteries on my camera died right after we got in the water so I didn't get very many pictures.
